Food

NO NUTS!!!!!

This year I have been asked to refrain from unwrapping packaging or opening containers. Please make sure that your child is able to eat the food that you pack for them independently, that it does not need to be heated up, and that they have all required utensils. This year students will be asked to bring home any recyclables they bring to school.

Students are asked to bring one snack to eat at morning recess. PLEASE pack it in a special/separate pocket of their backpack. Do NOT pack it in their lunch.

Please consider packing a morning snack that features protein. Grade one requires a lot of energy, and many students are starving by lunchtime.

Please consider packing a healthy lunch with limited sugar (treats are fine!). If a student MOSTLY eats sugar at lunch, they are hungry and cranky by the end of the school day and have difficulty concentrating.

Due to COVID 19, this year there will be no hot lunch available for purchase.

Library

Our class has library time on Tuesdays.

Students will have an opportunity to borrow books for the week, however they will NOT be allowed to take them home. If you notice any Lakeview or classroom books coming home, please send them back and send me a message letting me know so that I can properly sanitize them once returned.

If policy changes and students are able to bring books home, I will let you know! In the meantime, please make sure that you are reading the books you have at home with your child at least 15 minutes every day. This can look like them reading to you, you reading to them, you reading together, or listening to a video or audio book together.

Birthdays

This year I ask that you do not send any birthday treats due to COVID 19. We will do our best to make the day special in other ways!

Show and Tell

Once we've established classroom routines, our class will set up a time for Show and Tell. There will be a rotating schedule indicating whose turn it is to bring something special to school (toy, picture, book, etc.) to share with their classmates.

Whatever your child brings to share should be able to fit inside their backpack. We do our best to make sure that everything is put away safely after we look at it/talk about it, but accidents do happen! Try not to send things that are breakable or incredibly valuable.

This year any items brought will not be passed around or played with. Classmates will be able to see/listen from their desks.

Volunteers

Due to COVID 19 I am not asking for any volunteers right now. If this changes, I will let you know!

Masks

Our school district is asking that ALL students wear masks when unable to social distance. We will do our best to get outside and to distance when we're inside, but we will all have to be masked for a big chunk of each day. It is a good idea to send your child with two clean masks each day, and to encourage safe mask-wearing technique both inside and outside of school.

If you have any questions or concerns about masking, please feel free to call the school.
